The Burrowbrew’s are a vast extended family of stout halflings who live in the Golden Shire; named for the wealth of honey produced by its thousands of beehives. Their family crest, which appears on all beer, wine and mead barrels leaving the shire, is a bumblebee on a glass tankard of golden mead. Many times in the past, naive brigands would raid the shire only to learn that the Golden Shire is a metaphorical name, and that its inhabitants are quite humble. Some visitors would leave happily after sampling the products of the breweries, while others angry at their own blunder, would assault the halflings only to be driven away by the druids that maintain the bee colonies.
Recently, organized brigands came to the shire under the guise of merchants. They were given a warm welcome and a tour of the region before they turned on their hosts, burning and pillaging what little the halflings had. In the chaos, a few shire-folk were taken as slaves or driven away in fear. This was a great loss for the shire and so the people gathered what little remained of their possessions and equipped volunteers to venture forth and rescue their kin.
Tapfor Burrowbrew was the first halfling to volunteer and left the shire little under a month ago equipped with a fine rapier belonging to his great great grandfather, Bumble Burrowbrew, and a shield, which is actually a refitted barrel lid marked with the Burrowbrew crest.
